Get Engraven

Every way to memorize, in one app.

Eight study modes, six practice games, one spaced-repetition scheduler, a coach that adapts to your results, and Listen.

Onboarding

Your first verse, in your first minute.

Onboarding doesn't stop at a welcome screen. You'll read a real verse, take a first pass at recalling it, and watch it join your review plan — all before your first minute with Engraven is up.

1Read it

Your very first verse, shown whole, with The Scribe alongside you.

2Try it

One honest first pass — First-Letter mode, the gentlest way in — grades for real and starts your review schedule.

3Keep it

That's your first verse begun. The Scribe brings it back tomorrow, when it's most worth reviewing.

Memorization modes

Eight ways to move a verse from the page into your memory

Every mode feeds the same FSRS spaced-repetition scheduler, so the app — not guesswork — decides what you review and when.

1Read & Absorb

Hear the verse read aloud, with an optional phrase-by-phrase "chunk view," then a quick self-grade.

2First-Letter

Every word starts hidden behind its first letter. Tap one to reveal it — each tap is a small, honest hint.

3Cloze Fading

A rising share of words disappear into tappable blanks as you get stronger with a verse — 25%, then 50%, then more.

4Word Bank

Rebuild the verse by tapping shuffled word tiles in order. A wrong tap shakes gently and still counts — no shame, just signal.

5Type It Out

Type the verse from memory; it's checked word-for-word against the source text, not just "close enough."

6Speak It

Recite it aloud. Your device's own speech recognition grades it, word for word — with a graceful fallback to typing if speech recognition isn't available.

7Echo

Hear the full verse, then hear it again in paused chunks, then recall it with no audio at all — three rounds that tighten the scaffold each time.

8Free Recall

A blank page and the reference only. No hints, no scaffold, nothing until you submit. Reserved for verses you already know well.

Practice games

Practice becomes play

Six games and two focused drills, all built from verses you're already learning — never a separate word list to grind through.

Reference Match

Match verse snippets to their reference.

Next Word

Guess the next word and build a streak.

Chain Builder

Passages fall apart at the seams between verses — this game welds them back together.

Verse Ladder

Add a phrase, recite from the top — the heart of whole-book memorization.

Odd Word Out

One word has been swapped — spot it. Trains exact wording, not just the gist.

Reference Sprint

Given the address, recall the opening, fast. The skill that lets you use a verse out loud.

Verse Jigsaw (drill)

Rebuild a verse from shuffled phrases.

Echo Cadence (drill)

Listen closely — some words go quiet, and you fill them back in.

The why behind your plan

A coach who tells you why.

Not a black box. Right on your Today screen, The Scribe explains why today's plan looks the way it does — in plain words, drawn from your own practice.

Today, explained

A one-line reason sits under your session card: which method today leans on, and why — never a guess, always drawn from how you've actually been doing.

Every card has a reason

Open a session and each card carries its own quiet note — "still settling in, so the blanks stay generous," for instance — so nothing feels arbitrary.

How you learn, laid out

Progress gets a "How you learn" section: your measured strengths by method, honestly stated, including "still learning" when there isn't enough practice yet to say more.

The coach

The Scribe: a coach that adapts to your results

"Discover how you learn" is a short, honest, redoable assessment — as little as a minute, or as deep as four hands-on experiments if you want the fullest read on how you actually recall. It's never a one-time quiz: retake it anytime from Settings or the Coach tab, and your plan updates with it.

Explains your plan

Goals, pace, and a daily target shaped by your own "Discover how you learn" results, and a plain-words reason for each day's plan.

Grace-first check-ins

Streaks celebrate consistency. A missed day is never shamed, and there are no countdowns or loss-framing anywhere in the app.

Sparring & teach-back

Talk a verse through in your own words, or spar with the coach on the parts you keep stumbling over.

Choose your coach's look and voice from a growing cast of personas — a grandmother, a Sunday-school teacher, a scholar, a teen, and more. Almost every appearance option is also earnable for free just by practicing. Nothing you buy ever helps you memorize faster — that part is never for sale.

Listen

Listen until it's yours, then prove it

Loop a passage, slow it down, speed it up — let a chapter sit in your ears on a walk or a commute, before you ever try to recall it from memory. Listen reads from the exact same licensed translations as the rest of the app; the words are never altered for the sake of rhythm or style.

Share

Share what you're memorizing.

Turn any verse into a clean, shareable card — the verse, its reference, and its translation — ready to send in a text, post to a story, or simply keep for yourself.

Made from the real text

Every card is built from the exact same licensed translation you're memorizing from — never generated, never paraphrased.

One tap from any verse

Share straight from a verse you're studying, or from the verse you did best on at the end of a session.

Yours to keep

No account needed, nothing posted on your behalf — the card goes to your share sheet, and you decide where it goes from there.

Built to last, not to trap you

Offline-first, every mode

Every memorization mode works with zero connectivity — the AI coach is a layer on top, not something the app depends on to function. Your memorization data lives on your device; there's no account required to start.
